Ghost Fingers — Privacy Policy

Ghost Fingers does not collect, transmit, sell, share, or log any of your personal data.

What Ghost Fingers stores

Everything lives on your device, in Apple's standard sandboxed storage:

• Favorites — which surf spots you've starred
• Spot preference tunes — any per-spot adjustments you make in the Tuner
• Session log — surf sessions you manually log
• App settings — default board, units, notification preferences
• Feedback you send — a local copy of feedback you submit via the Account tab

All of this is stored in Apple-provided UserDefaults and SwiftData containers. It is not transmitted anywhere. It is removed when you delete Ghost Fingers from your device, or when you tap Account → Clear all local data inside the app.

What Ghost Fingers fetches from the internet

Ghost Fingers reads publicly available ocean, wind, and weather data from these sources:

• NOAA NDBC (buoy observations, realtime2 text files)
• NOAA CO-OPS (tide predictions)
• Open-Meteo / HRRR (hourly wind forecast)
• CDIP (nearshore wave models, UCSD/Scripps)
• NWS (marine zone forecasts)
• YouTube / municipal feeds (surf cams embedded in the Cams tab)

Requests carry only a descriptive User-Agent header so operators can identify the app if needed. No account, device ID, advertising ID, IP-based profile, or analytics identifier is sent with them.

What Ghost Fingers does NOT do

• No analytics SDK (no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no Segment)
• No crash reporter that phones home
• No ads, no ad networks, no ad IDs
• No App Tracking Transparency usage (we don't track)
• No location collection (we never request location permission)
• No account system — there is no login, no password, no user ID, nothing that could be associated back to you across devices or sessions

Notifications

If you turn on notifications in the Account tab, Ghost Fingers schedules alerts locally on your device via Apple's UNUserNotificationCenter API. The notifications do not pass through any Ghost Fingers server — because there is no Ghost Fingers server.

Feedback you send

Tapping "Send to Quentin" in the Feedback sheet opens the iOS Mail app with a prefilled message addressed to mrqthomas@gmail.com. When you tap send, your email client transmits the message — Ghost Fingers is not involved in delivery and does not hold a copy beyond the local entry stored on your device.
